Reserve Services for Faculty

Print Materials

Reserves is one of the most heavily-used services provided by the Sawyer Library. As a policy, the Library buys two copies of every book CAS and SSOM faculty members order through the University Book Store, and places each on 2-hour (in-Library use only) Reserve.

Please note that the Library will not buy any course packets. However, the Library will place course packets on Reserve if provided by the faculty member or by the copy services company.

Many newly acquired materials come prepackaged with supplemental resources such as workbooks, CD-ROMs, solution manuals, promotional material, and database keys. Sawyer Library will automatically place on Reserve any supplemental material that comes with a new book provided that it is relevant to the course and is usable by more than one student. This means that promotional material and single use keyed material will not be placed on Reserve. The Sawyer Library will not replace supplemental material that is lost or damaged from use.

Any book, article, CD-ROM, videotape or course packet provided by the faculty member can be placed on Reserve. Please bring materials for Reserves to the Circulation/Reserve Desk for processing.

Electronic Materials

The College of Arts and Sciences and the Business School have deployed course management software to support faculty. Faculty are strongly encouraged use this system to create course pages that employ library-licensed persistent URLs (PURLs) to the article in place of electronic reserve(s).

For questions or assistance concerning PURLS, or electronic reserves, please contact Amy Dumouchel  at adumouchel@suffolk.edu or call extension 1120.
