Suffolk University Students Taking Courses at Northern Essex Community College
Suffolk students taking courses at Northern Essex Community College are full-fledged members of the Suffolk community and have the same library privileges as on-campus students. Because of the distance from Boston we will try to provide as much information as we can through the web, the U.S. Mail and State Library Truck Delivery system, and services through the Northern Essex Community College Library.
- Although you will not receive a Suffolk University ID through the mail, you can acquire one at the Boston campus. If you come to the Sawyer Library to borrow materials, you will be asked to get a picture ID with barcode. This is done through the University Police in the security booth on Level 2 of the Sawyer Building. This is the only library card recognized on the Boston campus. This card will provide other benefits such as discounts available with a student ID.
- Web access to Suffolk’s databases arranged by subject is available from home at http://www.suffolk.edu/sawlib/oncampdb.htm. To access the online databases you will need to input your name and student ID number, (not your barcode number). Your student ID number can also be found on your registration form, bill, etc. If you experience any difficulties accessing these databases through our proxy server, please consult our off-campus troubleshooting page.
- Because of the distance from Boston we will provide materials available at the Sawyer Library. Students may use Web-based forms to request journal articles and/or books from the Sawyer Library.
- Remote Campus Book Request Form
- Remote Campus Article Request Form
- Information about titles, both books and journals, is available through the Suffolk on-line catalog. And to check whether there is an electronic access to a particular journal, consult our Full-Text Search Engine. Materials will be shipped to the NECC Lawrence library and you will be notified when they have arrived. Periodical articles are yours to keep. Books will be checked out to you and must be returned to Sawyer Library by the due date. Please return items to NECC Lawrence Library for shipment back. Overdue books will be charged a substantial fine (value of book plus $50.00) that will be added to your bill. You will receive a credit when the book is returned or you provide an exact equivalent replacement.
- You will be able to renew books for an additional 28 day period through the Renew Your Books option of the Archer OPAC (online catalog). Note: All circulating books are subject to recall by another user, when needed, after two weeks. If recalled, or put "on hold" by another user, a book may not be renewed.
- Reference librarians at Sawyer Library will attempt to answer informational questions sent via e-mail to sawlib@suffolk.edu
