• Usage Policies

Your in-room network connection is a privilege. Each student is responsible for his/her own network connection and for any activity that occurs on that connection, including improper/illegal use by others who may simply request to borrow your computer "for a few minutes."

Restricted Use

Harassment or Abuse: Unlawful communications, including pornography, obscenity, threats of violence and harassing communications due to race, creed, color or sexual orientation are prohibited.

Personal Servers

Personal servers, including file sharing servers such as KaZaa, as well as web servers, are not allowed on the university network.

Wireless Access Points (WAPs)

Wireless Access Points are not allowed in the Residence Halls due to the fact that they can interfere with Suffolk University assigned network addresses.

Copyright Infringements

Copying or sharing copyrighted music, software or data of any kind is prohibited and illegal. The penalties for sharing illegal material vary from network connection termination to significant fines. Media company officials are now targeting Universities across the country, as can be seen in this article from the Chronicle of Higher Education.
