Existing Buildings
Suffolk owns ten buildings in Downtown Boston. Since 2006 we have taken a number of steps to reduce energy consumption, including the installation of:
- Energy management systems
- Vending miser devices on vending machines
- Energy efficient lighting
- Occupancy sensors to turn off lights during periods of non-occupancy
- Variable speed drives to prevent equipment from running when it is not needed
- High efficiency HVAC equipment.
We have also taken measures to reduce water consumption, including:
- Low-flow showerheads in residence halls
- Low-flow faucet aerators throughout campus
- Low-flow or dual-flush toilets throughout much of campus.

Green Building Practices
Suffolk University is committed to achieving Silver-LEED certification for new building projects. LEED represents the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design green building rating system administered by the U.S. Green Building Council.
