Set Up Your iPhone on AT&T

You can set up your iPhone to access your Exchange email. Once you’ve set up the email, you can set your calendars and contacts to sync automatically. Before you begin, you must have access to iTunes and your iPhone should be running a current version of the iPhone iOS.

Install iTunes on your University computer.

If iTunes is already loaded on your computer, it is best to be running the most current version. The free upgrade is available at http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/.

Verify that your iPhone is running a recent iOS. To see what version of the iOS you’re running, open Settings, General, then About. The version number is near the bottom of the screen.

Set Up your iPhone Email for Exchange

  1. If you can currently access Exchange Server on your iPhone, disable the account in Mail Settings.
  2. To begin the installation, tap Settings.
     
  3. Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
  4. Select Add Account and then Microsoft Exchange.
     

Set Up your New Email Account

  1. Enter your email address (e.g. mailto:“jdoe@suffolk.edu”) in the Email box.
  2. Enter the server address (umail.suffolk.edu) in the Server box
  3. Enter your Outlook/Exchange domain (adm.suffolk.edu) and username (e.g. “sbrown”) in the Username box.
  4. Enter your current email password in the Password box.

     
  5. The iPhone will automatically search for Exchange Server.

    If you do not have Exchange 2007 with Auto Discovery turned on, it will fail and warn you that it couldn’t validate your account. You will have to manually enter your server name (umail.suffolk.edu) in the window. Also make sure that Use SSL is switched to the on position.
  6. You will now be able to send and receive email from your suffolk.edu address, and from any personal accounts.

Set Up your iPhone Calendar and Contacts to Sync with Exchange

You may sync your Exchange Outlook Contacts and Calendar with your iPhone. Note that the sync operates in both directions—to and from your iPhone. Depending on the amount of data in your Outlook contacts and calendar, the sync process may take a few minutes to complete.

Setting Up your Contacts

  1. After you have verified that email is working, go back into the Exchange Account Settings tab (Mail, Contacts,Calendar, above) Select your suffolk.edu account using the arrow.
  2. On the account page, use the ON/OFF slider to sync your Contacts.
     
  3. You will be asked to indicate whether you want to keep existing contacts on your iPhone or delete them, and then to verify your decision.
  4. The iPhone will sync your contacts.

 Setting Up the Calendar

  1. To set up Calendar syncing, follow the same process. Begin by sliding the Calendars switch to ON.
     
  2. You will be asked to indicate whether you want to keep existing local calendars on your iPhone or delete them, and then to verify your decision.
  3. The iPhone will sync your calendars.
