Writing 1

In Writing 1 students develop the skills of writing, reading, researching, and thinking which are necessary for success in all college courses.  Students are introduced to thought-provoking ideas in reading from a variety of disciplines which help them to define and articulate.  They express their thoughts in written and spoken standard English appropriate for college freshmen.  Students learn to organize material, analyze ideas, provide clear written expression, and become more self-reliant writers.  At the end of this course, students should consider themselves confident writers.  In addition, each student will develop a final portfolio consisting of five specific writing assignments.

Writing 2

This class draws upon the skills developed in Writing 1.  During Writing 2, each student will be expected to write at least 25 total pages of edited prose.  The writing assignments will include at least three expository essays, one personal response essay, and at least one summary/analysis of an assigned reading.  In addition, each student will be expected to read a full-length book assigned by the instructor.
