Hello fellow classmates! My name is Jonathan Soroko, but I go by “Jon.” I am a senior here at Suffolk University and am originally from Abington, MA. My area of study is in Global Business and Management at the Sawyer Business School. Currently I live in Dorchester and I know what it takes to be a commuter, with the difficulties of taking the train to school every day.
The main reason why I applied to be a Suffolk Retention Scholar is that I wanted to let incoming freshmen know about all the events and activities going on around campus. I found myself wanting to help students be notified of events that were happening throughout Suffolk and retain them here for their four years. I would also like to help freshmen with the transition between high school and college. That’s where I found the Office of Retention Services.
The main goal for me while being a Retention Scholar is to get the students involved with all the activities on campus. Once one goes and gets involved there are so many rare opportunities that open up. For example, three years ago I decided to sign up for alternative spring break, which is where students travel to a place where devastation hit and rebuild during spring break. And the next year I became a leader for a group. I would love to see freshmen make the same types of connections that I did my first two years here, and that is what the Office of Retention Services is about: helping you get connected.
