University response to notifications

Organizations such as the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) are vigilantly looking to stop piracy and copyright infringement. They use automated technology to identify violations.

While Suffolk University does not scan for copyright violations, the University is required by federal law to respond to notifications, from these and other organizations, of copyright violations on its networks. In such instances, the University will locate the offending machine and when possible the user of the machine.

University response to a subpoena

Upon receipt of a valid subpoena, Suffolk is obligated to turn over any electronic information regarding specific instances of infringing material that has been allegedly transmitted over its networks. Also, the University may be required to submit evidence to the appropriate authorities for criminal or civil prosecution.
