The program is designed for undergraduates who are either first-generation and income eligible college students or from groups which are underrepresented at the doctoral level.
The McNair Scholars program at Suffolk University encourages graduate studies by providing opportunities for undergraduates to define their goals, to engage in research, and to develop the skills and student/faculty mentor relationships critical to success at the doctoral level.
The McNair program was established by the U.S. Department of Education and named for Astronaut and Challenger space shuttle crew member Ronald McNair. The first programs were funded in 1989.
