Health Connector
Massachusetts residents age 18 or older are now required under Mass. law to have health insurance. Adjunct faculty and other part-time employees who are not eligible for health insurance under Suffolk’s group plan may now join one of the Commonwealth Health Connector’s Plans. While these plans are designed and administered by the Commonwealth, you may pay for the plan you select on a pre-tax basis through deduction from your Suffolk pay check.
To Enroll:
- You must enroll in a plan within 30 days of your date of employment. Contact Carol Powers at cpowers@suffolk.edu and ask that your name be entered into the Mass Health Connector. You will need to give us your full name, zip code, date of birth, email address and the last four (4) digits of your social security number. We will verify your eligibility with the Health Connector.
- Go to the Health Connector web site at http://www.mahealthconnector.org/ and click on the “Employees” section or call 1-877-MA-ENROLL. You will need Suffolk’s Employer ID # which is 144862.
- Review the health plans described on the web site and make your selection.
To Arrange for Payroll Deduction:
- Complete the Section 125 Cafeteria Plan Election Form and return it to the Human Resources Office. We must receive this form by the 1st of the month to begin deductions in that month.
- Your monthly premium payment will be deducted from your paycheck and sent to the Health Connector for you. If you paycheck does not cover your monthly premium, you will be contacted by the Health Connector to review payment options to keep your coverage continuous. You are solely responsible for the entire premium cost for any coverage you elect.
- If you are on less than a 12 month appointment, during months when you are unpaid, you should make arrangements directly with the Health Connector to pay for your coverage.
To Waive Coverage:
If you have health insurance through another employer, you may waive Suffolk's coverage under the Health Connector. Suffolk is required by the Commonwealth, however, to collect a waiver from all employees who do not take coverage through the Connector. Please complete the Health Insurance Waiver form and return it to the Human Resources Office.
