• Graduate Student Advocates Outreach Program

The Graduate Advocate Program serves as a support service for new students. Graduate Advocates provide students with resources that are needed for a successful first year experience. The program's intent is to provide ongoing support to students through phone outreach, correspondence, and targeted projects.

Requirements:

  • Current Suffolk graduate students
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Interest in promoting higher education
  • Counseling experience preferred
  • Commitment to 10 hours per week

Responsibilities:

Graduate Advocates are required to maintain a caseload of 50 new students. GAs encourage communication between new students and their academic advisors and empower students to advocate for themselves within the University system. GAs participate in periodic telephone and correspondence outreach, and coordinate two roundtable focus groups per semester.

Additional Responsibilities include:

  • Staffing the SAL line one night per week 5-6pm
  • Assisting in public relations activities promoting retention and graduation
  • Assisting in projects related to student retention
  • Contributing to the "Ask SAL column in the Suffolk Journal
  • Providing general support for the Enrollment and Retention Management Office.
