Interior Design Summer Study in Madrid, Spain

This 5-week study abroad program is an exciting and intense education experience, where students are exposed to international design trends and European traditions of art, architecture and culture through in-class instruction and visits to museums, cultural sites and design studios. From theory to practice, students are guided through a broad cultural and historical overview of Spanish art and architecture practices, which they will then apply to problem solving in their studio work. Students in the program will have the opportunity to travel to several special locations around Madrid and the surrounding regions, where they will experience first-hand contact with some of the most influential Spanish works, through visits to various museums. Through a careful and exciting selection of site visits and lectures, the program will provide an overview of the history of Spanish culture, art & architecture. Emphasis will be placed on chronological development of design styles & periods, the visual characteristics of each style including Spanish idiosyncrasies and their influence on Western traditions. Course requirements include pre-departure orientation meetings, written reports, a travel journal, and an interior design portfolio.
