Teaching Philosophy
In illustration, I value exciting use of metaphor and iconography, concepts that are expressed through form (composition and technique), and narrative that is supported by effective staging and atmosphere. These are aspects of art that result from careful, deliberative consideration. I encourage students to think. I emphasize the value of fundamental principles, effective self-directed process and informed experimentation and practice. If a student shows interest, enthusiasm, integrity, and effort, I believe they're likely to find the patience and persistence that will inevitably lead to significant artistic development.
