Teaching Philosophy

In my courses I try to inspire each student's innate desire to grow and to reach for excellence in their work. I strive to help students to understand the value of passion, compassion, resilience and self-respect as qualities to cultivate in oneself as a person. I work with them to develop the persistence, inquisitiveness and critical thinking skills essential for success. I insist on the continual practice of experimentation, and I try never to forget to include the serious element of play. These form the core of my teaching philosophy.

It is very important to me that my students understand how to create a personal application of their educational experiences. As their skills develop, I help them to emphasize their individual strengths and to constantly pursue the new ideas that most interest them.

I believe that students face an exciting and extremely challenging future in today's art and design world. The demand for superior visual problem solvers, makers and creative thinkers has never been greater. The competition for rewarding careers in the arts is now equally high. My high standards for students’ work are one part of my response to these conditions.
