My Story
I was born in Russia, but now my family lives in the United Arab Emirates, where I studied at the American University in Dubai. When I arrived in the States, I not only changed countries and transferred schools, but I shifted my focus from graphic design to interior design as well. The transition was hard at first. I was still getting used to the American way of life and Suffolk’s challenging interior design program. Once I settled in though, I put all my energies into getting the most out of my education.
In interior design you present yourself through your work, so it’s important that you produce the best designs possible. When your work is constantly being reviewed by your classmates, your professors and professionals from the field, you learn quickly how to take feedback and revise your designs to make them stronger. What I enjoy about interior design is that I can manipulate human behavior through different environments. It’s about understanding how a person feels in a space and reacts to it. And I like the challenge of creating spaces that constantly stimulate and engage the user.
My strong work ethic and my need to constantly challenge myself comes from my family, who taught me to envision what I want and make it happen. Whether that means working hard to win a national design contest or a salsa competition, I’m always setting new goals for myself. That’s why my to do list keeps growing. Despite that I never check everything off of it, I’ve actually done more than I thought I was even capable of.
