Suffolk University's main campus is comprised of sixteen buildings in downtown Boston, including four state-of– the– art residence halls. The School of Art & Design is located in the Back Bay, one of Boston's vibrant arts districts, and is just a few minutes from the main campus on Beacon Hill. This dedicated, 42,000 sq. ft visual arts facility includes traditional and electronic studios, a woodshop, a gallery and an art and design resource library.

Facility Highlights

Traditional Studios

There are several life studios for drawing, painting and sculpture, which have 15 foot ceilings and flooded with natural light. Life studios are used for foundation, fine arts and illustration courses and for the Pre-College, Jumpstart Art and Pre-Graduate programs.

Printmaking Studios

The printmaking studio accommodates a variety of traditional and experimental techniques. Printmaking focuses on collograph, woodblock, linocut, drypoint, etching, silkscreen, gum arabic transfers and monoprints.

Lighting Lab

The lighting lab demonstrates the latest in interior lighting, offering students the opportunity to familiarize themselves with contemporary lighting techniques and to study firsthand the chromatic and lighting effects so important to the creation of successful interior environments.

Computer Studios

Computer-based design is fully integrated into both the graphic design and interior design curricula. State-of-the-art equipment is available in PC (Interior Design) and Mac (Graphic Design) computer labs. Workstations are frequently upgraded to meet the demands of professional workplace-based software. There are also studios designated solely for graduate student use.

Woodshop

The woodshop is a resource for students who want to fabricate and manipulate materials. From building painting stretchers to constructing models, the woodshop offers a number of saws, hand tools and sanders to complete the job. There is always a trained and certified faculty member or student monitor in the woodshop to supervise.
