Lighting Lab
The lighting lab at the School of Art & Design has been designed to demonstrate the latest in interior lighting. The Lighting Laboratory offers the teachers and students in our undergraduate and graduate programs the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the latest in lighting technologies and to study firsthand the chromatic and lighting effects so important to the creation of successful interior environments. It also functions as an important instructional tool and as a design resource for those students who wish to apply the principles of lighting to their studio design projects.
The Lighting Laboratory offers a variety of approaches to the problem of lighting: direct and indirect light sources, conventional and low-voltage lighting, as well as representative examples of task, decorative and accent lighting suitable for domestic or commercial applications. It also contains a library of the most current technical and promotional literature and provides internet access to on-line material. The Laboratory was designed to function simultaneously as a classroom to assure the seamless integration of lighting issues into design studio teaching.
The facility was created with the generous and enthusiastic support of the professional community of lighting suppliers and manufacturers, many of whom donated their equipment and products to support our efforts to provide our students with the finest quality interior design lighting education.
