First Year Foundation Studies

Take the first step.

The School of Art & Design at Suffolk University offers Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees in Graphic Design, Interior DesignIllustration and Fine Arts. Regardless of major the Foundation studies program will be your first step. The first-year Foundation program is designed to equip you with the fundamentals of visual thinking and communication. You’ll get an uncommon degree of personal attention from your instructor, and a sense of bonding with your fellow students that will last throughout your studies.

In the Foundation studies program, you will:

Develop Chops. You will learn a lot about tools and materials and how to use them.

Own the Problem. This means to really engage with your assignments in a personal way, and keep trying even if it doesn't go well at first.

Communicate. Express your idea and feelings and the meaning behind the work.

Observe. See things in more depth and detail than ever before.

Question, Explain and Evaluate. Think and talk intelligently about your own work and that of fellow students.

Explore. Go beyond the boundaries of what you had thought was possible.
