Except for Spanish language courses, all courses at Suffolk Madrid are taught in English.
Applicants whose primary language is not English must be able to demonstrate proficiency in reading and writing English. To do so, applicants are expected to submit official TOEFL or ELPT scores with their application materials. A minimum score of 525/197 computer on the TOEFL Exam or 956 on the ELPT is required for admission to a degree program. Suffolk University also accepts the IELTS, CPE, CAE, and FCE. Once admitted, students will take an English Placement Exam, which will determine what course level they can take.
Students with satisfactory entrance proficiency in English take English 101 and 102, the standard Freshman English sequence.
Those for whom English is a second language, and whose performance on an entrance essay indicates the need for additional training to succeed in college-level work, are required to take English 095 and/or ENG 096.
