
Judy Braha has been a director, teacher and arts advocate in New England for over three decades. Currently head of the MFA Directing Program at Boston University’s School of Theater, her teaching, directing and guest artist credits include theaters and universities throughout New England and beyond. Recently, Judy directed OTHELLO for Actors’ Shakespeare Project, THE ROAD TO MECCA for Boston Center for American Performance and Joyce Van Dyke’s new plays THE OIL THIEF (Elliot Norton Award for Outstanding New Play) and DEPORTED/ a dream play for Boston Playwright’s Theater, which was performed at Suffolk’s Modern Theatre and featured several Suffolk student actors.
Braha has an MFA from Boston University, a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University and was a proud member of the Board of Directors of STAGESOURCE for its first six years. She joins us during the Spring 2013 semester as Distinguished Visiting Scholar and Director of the Suffolk Theatre Department’s production of The Crucible.
In addition to her work on the production, Braha will participate in other presentations with our students and the university community, including a dramaturgical discussion with Robert Hannigan about the Salem witch trials and HUAC hearings; a field trip with students to visit the Rebecca Nurse Homestead, Gallows Hill, and other sites referenced in the play; and a post-performance discussion after the public performance of The Crucible on April 20th.
