Gabriela Shalev is currently President of the Higher Academic Council and Dean of the Law School at Ono Academic College. Prof. Shalev completed a two year term (2008-2010) as Israel's Ambassador to the United Nations, the first woman in Israel to hold this position. Since returning to Israel Prof. Shalev has joined several academic councils and public bodies and has been appointed to the Board of Directors of Bank Leumi Le-Israel Ltd.

Until her early retirement in 2002 Prof. Shalev was a Professor of Law at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. She also taught, as a Guest-Professor, Contract Law and Comparative Law in universities in North America, Europe and Canada. Prof. Shalev is a permanent participant in international conferences as an expert on Contract Law and Comparative Law. For many years Prof. Shalev was the Chief Editor of the Israel Supreme Court judgments and editor of the legal section of the Hebrew Encyclopedia. Prof. Shalev received the Susman Law Prize (1989); the Zeltner Law Prize (1991) and in 2003 she won an honorary prize of the Israeli Bar Association for special achievements in academic research. She is a member of the International Academy of Comparative Law.

Prof. Shalev published eleven books and over one hundred articles, most of them dealing with Contract Law and Comparative Law. Her books on Contract Law are used as the basic books on the subject throughout Israel.

Prof. Shalev is considered a leading world expert on the subjects of Contract Law and Procurement Contracts. In addition to her academic work, Prof. Shalev provides expert legal advice and expert legal opinions to public bodies, institutions, arbitrators and lawyers, in Israel and abroad.

Prior to her term in the United Nations Prof. Shalev was a member of many public bodies and committees (among them Acting Chairman of the Israel Broadcasting Authority, member of the Jewish Agency Board of Governors, member of the Tribunal for Standard Form Contracts, member of the Committee for Codification of Civil Law, member of the Executive of the Israeli Democracy Institute, member of the Presidency of the Movement for Quality Government) and a member of Boards of Directors of leading Israeli companies (Teva Pharmaceuticals Industry, Osem Investments, Delek Ltd.)

She will be visiting Suffolk University during the first week of October 2012 for a series of events centered on Israeli-American relations. In addition to visiting with several classes, she will be offering the following public events:
