Rogers Smith is an expert on constitutional law, American political thought, and modern legal and political theory, with special interests in questions of citizenship, race, ethnicity and gender. He was elected as an American Academy of Arts and Sciences Fellow in 2004.

At the University of Pennsylvania, Prof. Smith serves as Chair of the Penn Program on Democracy, Citizenship and Constitutionalism and as the Christopher H. Browne Distinguished Professor of Political Science.

Prof. Smith's most recent book (with Desmond S. King) is entitled Still a House Divided: Race and Politics in Obama's America (Princeton University Press, 2011).

He will be visiting Suffolk University during the last week of October 2012 for a series of events centered on the upcoming election and constitutional law. In addition to visiting with several classes, he will be offering the following public events:
