Panel to discuss lessons learned from Massachusetts and beyond

Suffolk University presents "Confronting Gang Violence: Lessons from Massachusetts and Beyond." The forum will be moderated by Suffolk University Professors Erika Gebo and Brenda J. Bond, authors of Looking Beyond Suppression: Community Strategies to Reduce Gang Violence.

Panelists include:

  • Mary Beth Heffernan, Secretary of the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security, Suffolk alumna of the Sawyer Business School and the Law School
  • Sgt. Miguel Lopez, Worcester Police Department gang unit
  • Andrea Perry, Boston Boys and Girls Clubs YouthConnect, honored recently at the White House as a Champion of Change
  • Senator Michael Rodrigues (D-Westport), chair of the Children, Families and Persons with Disabilities Committee

     

    A book launch for Looking Beyond Suppression, which presents narratives from the front lines of a statewide initiative to quash gang violence, will follow at 5:30 p.m.

    The event gathers together the research and resources of the University’s Center for Crime & Justice Policy Research, Institute for Public Service, Moakley Center for Public Management, and Rappaport Center for Law and Public Service.
