A talk by Rachael Cobb, Associate Professor of Government, Suffolk University, and Erika Gebo, Associate Professor of Sociology, Suffolk University.
We use data gathered from structured observations at five polling locations within the City of Boston to examine Election Day experiences on voters. Boston and other locations in Massachusetts are unique in the United States in that a police officer is required to be present at every polling location in the state. We conclude that election official training and their subsequent Election Day voter interactions may have a powerful effect on people’s willingness to vote.
