Fukushima! Life in Japan After the Earthquake
福島! 大地震後の日常生活

Japan was rocked by a major earthquake in March 2011, then inundated by a tsunami that flooded the nuclear power station in Fukushima on the eastern coast north of Tokyo. Japan has changed since then. Thousands of people have been displaced, living outside of the high radiation zone, but unable to begin rebuilding their lives as they exist in temporary shelters, sometimes unused schools or public buildings. Radiation-tainted food has appeared in Tokyo markets. Electricity is rationed and cities are dimmed as businesses turn off lights and equipment.

Chie Goto 後藤千枝 is an activist and reporter who has been trying to understand and help the victims of this huge catastrophe. She has stories to tell and photos to show of the aftermath of the tragedy and life in Japan today. Ms. Goto is a journalist and activist who visited the area of the Fukushima earthquake many times since the event in March 2011. She will show photos and talk about how people in the region are dealing with their losses and struggling to survive.

This event is sponsored by the Rosenberg Institute at Suffolk, in co-operation with the Japan Foundation Center for Global Partnership and the Boston-based international non-profit United Planet. Free and Open to the Public.
