My name is Camila Godoy. I am a Clinical Psychology Ph.D. student here at Suffolk. I work with Dr. Amy Marks and am interested in the acculturation process of immigrants and the “immigrant paradox” phenomenon. My current work considers the effects of neighborhood characteristics on this “immigrant paradox”—a phenomenon whereby more acculturated youth respond worse in measures of behavioral, academic, and mental health outcomes compared to first generation immigrants their age.
My role in the Diversity Committee has been in the recruitment, outreach, admission and retention of diverse populations. Together with committee members, we have instituted Safe Zone training for all Ph.D. students and professors, are in the process of developing and introducing an LGBT course to the program, and continuously participate in career fairs and information sessions to encourage diverse applicants. By way of my personal experiences as a multicultural individual, I am also committed to contributing to our understanding of issues facing diverse populations in the classroom, at our training sites, and through my research.
