Mission

The department will provide to its students an excellent undergraduate education suitable for entering graduate school or the job market.

Goals

To respond to the mission, the physics department has formulated the following goals:

 

  • Educate students in fundamental and applied physics - both theoretical and experimental.
  • Acquire the necessary skills for critical thinking, problem solving and scientifice communication.
  • Educate and inform students about the role of physics in society, professional ethics, and the wide range of career options available to a major in physics.
  • Produce graduates who are able to function well in graduate school, private companies, and government organizations.

 


The Physics Department offers both a major and a minor in physics and a special track in Astrophysics. The major in physics is a B.S. degree which provides graduate school preparation and satisfies the core requirements for initial licensure in Secondary School Teaching with a major in physics.

Another degree, leading to a career in radiation therapy is Radiation Biology. This degree is offered jointly with Suffolk University’s Biology Department and the Radiation Oncology Department at Massachusetts General Hospital.
