My name is Katie Bedard and I am an advanced student in the clinical program here at Suffolk. In 2009, I completed my Early Research Project (Masters) with Dr. Amy Marks on the development of ethnic identity in bicultural children and adolescents and the role of the school context. Currently, my dissertation research merges my work with ethnic identity development and my on-going interest in LGBT mental health in order to investigate the development of sexual identity during adolescence.
Since my first year on the Diversity Committee I have been part of bringing a social aspect to our time together. Boston has so much diversity for us to learn about and enjoy! Some of our departmental outings have included salsa dancing, dim sum and walking tour of China Town, and going out for Ethiopian food.
I grew up in Western Massachusetts but have been living in Boston since graduating from Wellesley College in 2004. After graduating I worked at a group home for six adults with severe mental illness and also spent three years doing research on risk factors for the development of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder in children with traumatic injuries.
