The Theatre Department

Theatre education at Suffolk combines practical, hands-on training with the solid foundation of a liberal arts education. Whether you prefer to be backstage or center stage, our program will help you hone the skills that will set the stage for your success.

Our students and faculty share a passion for the dramatic arts. They study and work in many aspects of theatre, including:

  • Performance
  • Musical Theatre
  • Directing
  • Playwriting
  • Technical Theatre and Design
  • Stage Management
  • Arts Management

We place particular emphasis on supporting student initiatives, offering valuable experience throughout the undergraduate education in writing, directing, designing, and performing. We produce at least two student showcases and two faculty-directed productions a year. Students also have many opportunities to participate in professional productions at Suffolk’s beautifully-restored Modern Theatre.

Note: our student and faculty productions actually happen in the Studio Theatre, C.Walsh Theatre and Modern Theatre.

There are no auditions for admission to the program and students from any major in the university are welcome to participate in theatre classes and productions.
