Peter Jankovic to give a free concert in the C. Walsh Theatre

The College of Arts and Sciences offers a free concert featuring classical guitarist, Peter Jankovic. A discussion will follow the concert and Jankovic will talk about his personal journey from Serbia to the Indiana University School of Music in the McDermott Conference Room.

Jankovic began playing guitar in Yugoslavia at age eight.  He went on to earn his degree in classical guitar from the renowned Music Academy in Belgrade.  He was a two-time gold medal, silver medal, and two-time bronze medal winner at the National Music Competition.  He began teaching classical guitar at age 20 at the Community College in Belgrade.  He earned his master's degree from the Indiana University School of Music in the 1990s.  He was invited by the Indiana University School of Music to pursue the Artis Degree under the guidance of Maestro Ernesto Bitetti.  In 1997, he developed a guitar program at the College of Indiana. In 1998, he released his CD Romanitco, which explains the sounds of the romantic Spanish and Latino-American world and featured his own interpretations of pieces by famous composers, like Pipo and Torrobba.  In 2002, he released another CD, Bogdanovic, Brouwer, Dyens, featuring works by the most prominent and influential classical guitar composers of today. Currently he is a faculty member at the Indiana University School of Music.
