The Géwël Tradition Project
Launched in the summer of 2005 the Géwël Tradition Project has the purpose of researching, documenting and supporting the géwël tradition as it has manifested historically from the 9th century, to how it is being transformed in the present, modern era of the 21st century.
The Senegalese-American Student Teaching Program (Dakar, Senegal)
This program provides students the opportunity to learn about and experience teaching,while sharing knowledge and skills from their major field of study in an international, educational environment. (see BLKST 510 for fuller description.)
Haitian Arts and Education Programs The Black Studies Program is working with JANBÉ, a summer dance institute for young people in Haiti, who for reasons of economic and/or availability have not had the opportunity to study dance in this way. Black Studies is also developing student/teacher opportunities with the
Gawouginou Foundation which runs a school and other education programs in Mirbalais, Haiti.
Directed Studies and Research Projects are also available through individual departments for students who want to include individual specialized research in the minor.
