Admissions

To be considered for admission into the Economics Ph.D. program, applicants must meet the following requirements and complete the application process:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Graduate Record Examination (GRE) taken within the past five years with:
    • a combined score of 1100 (300 in the new scale) or above in Quantitative and Verbal sections
    • a score of 3.5 or above in Analytical Writing section
    • GMAT scores are not accepted
  • Three letters of recommendation, including at least one from academia
  • Undergraduate courses completed in microeconomics, macroeconomics, statistics, and at least one course in calculus
  • For international students whose native language is not English:
    • TOEFL score above 575 on the paper-based test or   86 on the internet-based test (waived for those who have earned a bachelor’s degree from an American college or university).

Financial Aid

The Ph.D. program offers various levels of financial support. Outstanding candidates for full-time study may receive full financial awards, including full tuition waiver up to three years and teaching or research assistantship. Partial financial awards are offered to qualified full-time students. Additional opportunities exist for grants and scholarships.
