WHAT: Dr. Hassan Bakr Hassan, professor of political science at Assiut University in Egypt, is a visiting Fulbright scholar at Suffolk University 's College of Arts and Sciences under the Fulbright program Direct Access to the Muslim World.

Hassan, whose visit is hosted by the Government Department, will lecture on “The Ideology of Jihad for the Third Islamic Internationalism, with a reference to a content analysis of Usama bin Laden Speeches (1996-2001)” at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12 in the McDermott Conference Room, Donahue Building, first floor, 41 Temple St., Beacon Hill.

He will also deliver a lecture, “Clash or Dialogue of Civilizations? Challenging the Neo-Institutional Liberalism on the Threshold of the 21st Century” at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, in the McDermott Conference Room.

WHO: Hassan, who holds BS and MS degrees from Cairo University, received MA and Ph.D. degrees in international relations and comparative politics from the University of Maryland. He is the author of numerous scholarly publications on international relations, with emphasis on conflict and crisis management; on comparative politics, with emphasis on the Middle Eastern political systems; and on methodology and political theory. His forthcoming books are Islam on the March: The Jihad for the Third Islamic Internationalism (in English) and Egypt-U.S. Relations (in Arabic).

OVERVIEW: The Fulbright Visiting Specialists Program: Direct Access to the Muslim World is designed to promote understanding of Islamic civilization and the history, politics, and culture of today's Muslim world by people in the United States and to strengthen resources for enriched understanding of relevant issues. United States colleges and universities can host specialist from countries with a significant Muslim population for short-term (3-6 weeks) programs of intensive lecturing, public outreach, and consultation.
