Sociology is the study of how people live, behave and work together in groups. Sociologists explore the complex dynamics of human interactions within and across cultures, including the importance and impact of families, religion, political movements, governments and laws, conformity and deviation, and all forms of social inequality.

The Department of Sociology offers a challenging and stimulating curriculum that prepares students to engage as critical thinkers and active citizens within a diverse global society. The Sociology Department offers its majors an integrated program of study that combines a broad curriculum within sociology with an option to specialize in specific concentrations within the major. A minor in sociology is also available.

An undergraduate education in sociology prepares students for a wide range of career options, including graduate and legal studies. A pre-law advisor is available within the department for those students interested in seeking admission to law school.
