Acting Presdient and Provost Barry Brown.

In his remarks for awarding the degree, Suffolk’s Acting President and Provost Barry Brown said:

"Jeanette G. Clough, you are President and Chief Executive Officer of Mount Auburn Hospital. You oversee a $350-million annual budget and are responsible for 2,800 staff and 850 physicians. You transformed Mount Auburn from a fiscally ailing institution into a healthy vibrant medical center while concomitantly improving patient safety and quality of care- and, employee satisfaction. In 2009, Boston Business Journal named Mount Auburn a "best place to work" for the fourth consecutive year. You are a Trustee of the American Hospital Association, and from 2004-2005 you were chair of the Massachusetts Hospital Association, during which term you contributed to the Commonwealth's healthcare reform initiatives. You have proven such a singular hospital executive that you are the subject of a Harvard case study. Your career began as a staff nurse and clinical nurse specialist at Massachusetts General Hospital. You went on to become an administrator, holding such positions as Chief Operating Officer of WalWest Health Systems, Inc.; Vice President for Patient Care at WalthamWeston Hospital & Medical Center; and President and Chief Executive Officer of Deaconess Waltham Hospital. You are a widely read authority and sought after public speaker. Among your laurels are the 1999 Outstanding Alumni Award from Suffolk University and the YWCA of Cambridge Tribute to Outstanding Women Award for 1999. The Cambridge Chamber of Commerce recognized you as Business Person of the Year in April 2002 and Boston magazine's May 2003 issue listed you as one of the 100 most influential women in Boston. Under your leadership Mount Auburn Hospital has been recognized as a Top 100 Hospital for Cardiac Services and also received the Community Leadership Award from the American Cancer Society. You were Suffolk University's first Distinguished Lecturer.

For your landmark contributions to innovative health care and health management, by the authority delegated to me, I confer upon you the honorary degree of Doctor of Business Administration."

On behalf of Suffolk’s healthcare faculty and students, Rick Gregg, Operating Director of Healthcare Programs, said, “Congratulations to Jeanette for receiving this well-deserved honorary degree. She has played a significant role in improving healthcare in Massachusetts and the United States. And as Suffolk’s Distinguished Guest Lecturer in Healthcare Administration, she has taught our students and alumni a lot about how to think about and address many of the challenges and changes occurring in healthcare. She is a role model and inspiration for all of us.”
