Student Employee Fact Sheet

  • Employment awards are NOT credited to your tuition account. Please do not include these funds when determining the amount you will owe to the university. You will receive payment for the hours you work via direct deposit on the dates listed on the bi-weekly payroll schedule.


  • Employment awards are divided by semester, and do not “rollover.” If you receive a $2,000 Work Study award you may earn up to $1000 during the fall semester and $1000 during the spring.


  • Students are not paid for sick days, vacations, lunch hours, breaks, jury duty, holidays, etc.


  • If you graduate, withdraw, are academically dismissed or drop to less than 6 credits per semester, you are no longer eligible to participate in a student employment program.



  • Students are not authorized to begin working until their supervisor can access them in the student payroll system, CollegeTime. If you have any questions on employment eligibility, please contact the Office of Student Financial Services at (617) 573-8470.


  • You MAY NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, submit your own hours on CollegeTime or forge your supervisor’s name on a timesheet. Forging a supervisor’s signature constitutes fraud and suspected cases of work study fraud will be referred to the U.S. Department of Education for prosecution.


  • Your supervisor should submit hours on CollegeTime for each pay period that you work- do not hold timesheets until the end of the semester. File timesheets on the appropriate pay dates for appropriate hours. You are not permitted to begin working until your supervisor can access you in CollegeTime. Late timesheets submitted to Payroll should not be as a result of supervisors allowing their students to work before they are authorized in CollegeTime.


  • Students may not work over 20 hours per week while classes are in session. This is especially important for international students, who are prohibited from working over 20 hours by the INS. Students are able to work up to 35 hours per week when classes are not in session (winter or spring breaks), however they must receive PRIOR authorization from the Office of Student Financial Services to do so.


  • The last day that students may work in fall 2012 is DECEMBER 15, 2012. The last day that students may work in spring 2013 is MAY 4, 2013. STUDENTS WILL NOT BE PAID FOR ANY HOURS WORKED AFTER THESE DATES WITHOUT PRIOR APPROVAL FROM THE OFFICE OF STUDENT FINANCIAL SERVICES.
