Salamander Editor & Filmmaker/Poet join forces for a literary evening

Join us for an evening of poetry with Jennifer Barber, faculty member in Suffolk's English Department and editor of Salamander, and Aimée Sands, poet and documentary filmmaker.

Jennifer Barber’s new collection of poems, Given Away, was published by Kore Press in June of 2012. She is the author of Rigging the Wind (2003), recipient of the 2002 Kore Press First Book Award, and Vendaval (1998) in Take Three: 3, Agni New Poets Series (Graywolf Press). Her poems have appeared in Orion, Bellevue Literary Review, Agni, Zeek, The Jewish Forward, Upstreet, Harvard Review, Harvard Divinity Bulletin, The Gettysburg Review, Cerise Press, and The New Yorker, among other magazines. She has been the recipient of a Pushcart Prize, the Anna Davidson Rosenberg Award, and a St. Botolph Grant. She is the founding and current editor of the literary journal Salamander, now in its 20th year, and teaches English Literature and Creative Writing at Suffolk University.

Aimée Sands is the author of The Green-go Turn of Telling, just released by the Irish press Salmon Poetry. Her poems have previously appeared in Field, Beloit Poetry Journal, Poet Lore, Measure, Salamander and other literary journals. She is the co-director of the Brookline Poetry Series.

Aimée is also an independent documentary filmmaker. She recently received a $200,000 grant from the W. K. Kellogg Foundation to expand her film short What Makes Me White? to an hour-long broadcast documentary. The film is already in use as a tool for diversity and anti-racism work in over 200 colleges, churches, and nonprofits in the US and Canada. Aimée teaches at Babson College.
