• New NECN Reporters Hit the Streets

Prepare to be dazzled.

Three new "Suffolk in the City" reporters are hitting the streets to take Boston’s pulse on the hottest topics – and this semester’s all-female trio is bringing a decidedly fun and fashionable take on current events.

Michelle Leonardo – reigning Miss New Jersey USA— is fresh from a summer spent competing in pageants and filming a reality television series. Tiffany Chan and Jessica Nappi both kicked off their September schmoozing at New York and Boston Fashion Week events. They all love fashion and celebrities and dream of one day reporting for E! Entertainment News. Does this mean "Suffolk in the City" is putting style over substance? Hardly.

All three broadcast journalism majors had the chops it took to make it through a rigorous audition process to earn the coveted gig on New England Cable News (NECN). Thanks to a partnership between NECN and Suffolk University’s Studio 73, these three talented students are getting a taste of live reporting in the "Suffolk in the City" segment that airs on the network’s “Morning Show”. They’ll work on weekly story pitches with NECN producers, tape person-on-the-street interviews, edit their footage, and participate in live Q&As with NECN anchors. You can see their reports on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

“'Suffolk in the City' provides an extraordinary opportunity for our broadcast students,” said Robert Rosenthal, chair of Suffolk University’s Communication and Journalism Department. “Through our partnership with NECN and ‘The Morning Show’, Suffolk students are reporting live and producing entertaining pieces seen throughout New England.”

Chan, Leonardo and Nappi are all honored by the opportunity to report on NECN, a responsibility they take very seriously. Still, they hope to let their “girly, fun” personalities shine through in their segments, as Tiffany did when she recently asked Bostonians about their personal style.

We’re looking forward to see what these savvy student reporters do next – perhaps their own version of Fashion Police from Studio 73? Stay tuned!
