• The Paradox of Self-deception

Part of the Spring 2012 Philosophy Colloquium Series

Thursday, March 8, 2012
1-2:30pm
McDermott Conference Room
1st floor Donahue, 41 Temple St

This will be an informal discussion of the intuitively familiar yet mysterious phenomenon of self-deception. The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy states: "virtually every aspect of the current philosophical discussion of self-deception is a matter of controversy including its definition and paradigmatic cases." We'll begin our conversation with Jean-Paul Sartre's existentialist classic, "Bad Faith" from Being and Nothingness (click for a PDF of the reading).

All are welcome!
