with Brenda McKenzie, Director of Economic Development, Boston Redevelopment Authority

Get the inside scoop on Boston's new hub for innovation. Between January 2010 and August 2011, the Innovation District attracted 70 new companies to the South Boston Waterfront and created 2,000 jobs. The new firms represent a broad range of industries, with an emphasis on green technology, information technology/software development, and digital media and marketing. Learn more about how this area came about, what's happening now, and plans for the future. 

 

Brenda McKenzie has been with the BRA for 3 years. Previously, she worked for Starbucks Coffee, managing Government & External Affairs in the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility division. In addition, she held a top post in the administration of Chicago Mayor Richard Daley as deputy commissioner for the city’s Department of Planning and Development. During her 11-year tenure with the City of Chicago, she worked for the Department of Housing, the Chicago Housing Authority and the Office of Budget & Management.
