John A. Nucci Named To Vice President Post At Suffolk University

12/7/2005

For more than 20 years, Nucci has been a prominent elected official in the City of Boston. Nucci served six years on the Boston School Committee, including four years as president, and was an at-large member of the Boston City Council for four years. He has been the elected Clerk of the Suffolk County Criminal Superior Court for the past 11 years. In addition to his elected positions, Nucci served for more than 20 years at Action For Boston Development (ABCD) in Boston.

He will assume his new post in January and will leave his Superior Court position.

“Suffolk University is going through a period of tremendous growth and change,” said Sargent. “We have always recognized our obligation to be a good neighbor in this community. Now, the University's continued growth and our increasingly high profile present new challenges. With this appointment, the university will be extremely well-positioned to meet those challenges.

“John Nucci is uniquely qualified to take on this new role,” said Sargent. “As an elected official who has served on the Boston School Committee, the Boston City Council and Suffolk Superior Court for more than two decades, John has been involved in many issues affecting the city and the region. He also is an alumnus of Suffolk University, and he teaches in the Masters of Public Administration program at the University. He understands this city and this University as few others do, and Suffolk is very pleased to have someone of John's caliber assume this position of leadership.”

“Suffolk University has been an integral part of my life for many years,” said Nucci. “Under the leadership of David Sargent, the university has seen dramatic growth and development. In this new role, I will have an opportunity to work with President Sargent to manage that growth by working with a number of key audiences, including our immediate neighbors, representatives of city, state and regional government, representatives of business and academia, and alumni. This is a great opportunity, and I am looking forward to the challenge.”

Robert Mulligan, Chief Justice for Administration and Management of the Trial Court, said: “John Nucci's leadership and professionalism will be missed in the court system and will no doubt prove to be of significant benefit to Suffolk University. The recent extraordinary progress made by the Superior Criminal Court in Suffolk County in reducing case backlog is due in no small part to the diligence and leadership of Clerk-Magistrate John Nucci.”

Nucci, a lifelong resident of East Boston, is a graduate of Boston College and holds an MPA from Suffolk University. His two sons are also students at Suffolk.
