Latest Developments in Alimony

Fall course from the Center for Advanced Legal Studies

9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, 2011
Suffolk University Law School
120 Tremont St., Boston

The Center for Advanced Legal Studies presents a course on Latest Developments in Alimony.

The course is co-sponsored with the Macaronis Institute for Trial & Appellate Advocacy, Flaschner Judicial Institute, Massachusetts Bar Association and the Massachusetts Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.

The proposed Alimony Reform Act of 2011 has achieved the widespread support of the major bar associations and could have a substantial impact on the practice of divorce law.

In recent years, issues have arisen about modification based on the retirement of an alimony obligor, the use of time-limited alimony orders, reimbursement alimony and consideration to be given, if any, to premarital cohabitation as a factor in the determination of alimony.

Judges of the Probate and Family Court together with leading practitioners -- some of whom played a significant role in the drafting of the new law -- discuss the status of alimony going forward.
