Sawyer Business School student Stephen Gaudet is the 2011 recipient of a prestigious scholarship from the Boston Chapter of the international honor society Beta Gamma Sigma, which will hold an event in his honor this fall.

The Beta Gamma Sigma Scholarship recognizes a business student who embodies three key qualities: honor, wisdom and earnestness.

Gaudet, who will be a senior at Suffolk University’s Business School in fall 2011, is pursuing a double major in Accounting and Management. He is working as a summer intern for Deloitte, having been hired after he was chosen to participate in the 2010 Deloitte National Leadership Conference.

Mentor and role model

As a Sawyer Ambassador, one of 10 honors students whose mission is to build community among undergraduates, Gaudet serves a mentor and role model for other Sawyer Business School students. He coordinates service projects at the Rosie’s Place sanctuary for homeless women, one of a number of community organizations served by the Sawyer Ambassadors. He also has tutored students for whom English is a second-language.

“In his work as an Ambassador, Steve has shown that he is among the best of our most excellent students,” said Myra Lerman, assistant dean for undergraduate programs at the Business School. “He accomplishes a prodigious amount of outstanding quality work. He is a team leader for nine new Ambassadors; he is mentoring, presiding over meetings, coordinating service projects and social events and facilitating focus groups. He exemplifies the principles and values of the Society: honor and integrity, pursuit of wisdom, and earnestness.”

Additional honors

Gaudet’s achievements also have been recognized through the Business School Honors Scholarship, Beta Alpha Psi Honor Society and the Financial Executives International Scholarship. He is president of the Honors Scholars Planning Committee, represented Sawyer Business School honors students at the National Collegiate Honors Council Conference, and participated in the 2010 Externship at KPMG Forensic Advisory Services and the 2011 KPMG Discovery Program.

His brother Gary Gaudet, also an honors student, recently earned an MSA from the Business School.
