Getting a Boost into the Business World

Allison Ryans

Allison Ryans is thankful to Suffolk University not only for providing her with a quality education, but also for preparing her for the real world.

“Suffolk definitely is a special place,” said the 2011 summa cum laude graduate of the University’s Sawyer Business School. “The University understands that as Suffolk students you’re going to school; you’re going to work; and you have other responsibilities. I think that all hones in on the Suffolk spirit.”

Ryans, who majored in Accounting and aims to become a CPA, said that the University has offered her “a great stepping stone” toward her career goals.

“The professors here try to build personal and professional relationships with the students,” she said. “They also help students reach their potential and find ways for them to have a successful future.”

Guided by a professor, Ryans landed a job as an intern at KPMG, the nationally-renowned audit, tax and advisory services firm.

As a student, her typical day was filled with gaining knowledge – both in the classroom and in the workplace. Ryans earned excellent grades while maintaining a part-time work schedule and participating in KPMG’s Future Diversity Leaders program.

She said that KPMG loves taking Suffolk University students “because they know they already have that work-life balance, and that’s an important thing to have.”

In the fall, Ryans will enter the master’s degree program in Accounting at the Sawyer Business School while working in the recruiting department at KPMG. Based on her past experience, she is confident in her ability to handle both of these challenging tasks.
