Lightning Hit Captured from Law School Roof

6/2/2011

Media Services Director Brian McDermott heard that a storm was rolling into Boston from the west on Wednesday June 1. He set up a video camera on the Suffolk University Law School roof with the intention of producing a time lapse video. What he got instead was a dramatic shot of a lightning bolt striking the Prudential Center, which was picked up by CBS News.

“The sky was pretty static and uninteresting to look at,” said McDermott. "I was fortunate to find this in the middle of the footage.”

McDermott cut it down to a small video and put it up on YouTube. He also sent it to WCVB-TV Channel 5 where it was featured on the 11 p.m. news.
