Commencement 2011

As their families and friends from the United States and many other countries watched, Suffolk students received their MHA, MBA/Health and MPA/Health degrees on Saturday, May 21st at the Westin Copley Place Hotel in Boston. The mood was festive and filled with anticipation as Suffolk’s leaders and faculty members processed into the ballroom, to the sounds of Edward Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance marches, played by the Boston Brass Ensemble. Following an inspiring commencement address by Peter H. Smyth, Chairman and CEO of Greater Media, Inc., and class greetings from Christopher A. West, MBA 2011, the degrees were awarded by Sawyer Business School Dean William J. O’Neill, Jr. and students were hooded by Dean Morris McInnes and Dean Laurie Levesque. Afterward, the new graduates and their guests celebrated with faculty members in the Essex Ballroom.

“On behalf of the faculty, I congratulate our graduates,” said Rick Gregg, Operating Director of Healthcare Programs. “They have grown so much in the time they’ve been with us, and it has been our privilege and pleasure to share the learning journey with them. Our graduates will all make significant contributions to the healthcare field as their careers progress, knowing that they go forth from Suffolk University as change agents.”

Talia Goldsmith, one of the graduates, reflected on the Commencement and her experience in the MHA Program: “The 2011 Commencement marked the momentous end of one journey and the beginning of a new chapter in my life. I felt proud to share this special day with my family, friends, fellow graduate students and healthcare faculty. In celebrating with students and professors, I couldn’t help but remember why I chose Suffolk’s Healthcare Programs in the first place, especially the strong sense of community. I look forward to being actively involved in supporting Suffolk’s Healthcare Programs in the future – now as an alumna! While the Commencement marked a bittersweet ending to a significant phase in my life, I could not feel better prepared to face new challenges as I begin the next phase of my professional career.”

Brittany Hammond, another graduate, observed, “Graduation day brought many emotions; we all worked so hard for this day and you could feel an overwhelming sense of satisfaction, excitement and pride in the room. I am proud to enter the healthcare community with a Suffolk MHA degree and am confident the education I received has truly prepared me for what’s to come.”
