Moot Court Team Wins Northeast Regional Competition

3/31/2011

Suffolk Law School's moot court team won its regional competition and is headed to the national finals of the 38th Annual Giles Sutherland Rich Memorial Moot Court Competition, which will take place April 13-15 in Washington D.C.

The competition presents current hot-button issues in Intellectual Property Law and, specifically, Patent Law.

Suffolk Law School hosted the Northeast Regional competition over three days in March.

Twenty two-student teams competed, representing Duke, Georgetown, Harvard, UConn, George Mason, American, Maryland, Minnesota, and Pittsburgh law schools.

Each team was required to brief and argue both sides of a legal case. After Friday night, four teams were still in competition: Harvard, Suffolk, George Mason, and Minnesota.

The two winners of the Saturday round -- Harvard and Suffolk -- faced off in the finals on Sunday, with the Suffolk Law team of Ben Williams and Larry Singer prevailing over Harvard to win the Northeast Regional competition.

Both Suffolk and Harvard law schools will go to the finals, where they will compete against finalists from the other three regional competitions.
