Ashley Judd

3/22/2011

The Ford Hall Forum at Suffolk University presents actor and humanitarian Ashley Judd discussing “Bittersweet Humanitarianism” from 6:30-8 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2011, at the University's C. Walsh Theatre.

She will appear with author and Roxbury International Film Festival founder Candelaria Silva, who will serve as moderator.

Judd walked away from an award-winning acting career nearly a decade ago to answer her calling as a humanitarian.

Having visited countless slums and brothels around the world in the past decade, Judd has captured stories of survival and resilience in extensive diaries. Judd’s journey compelled her to commit to in-patient treatment for her grief from childhood abandonment. She shares these stories in her memoir, All That Is Bitter and Sweet.

Silva will tap Judd’s experiences in feminist social justice work to discover the relationship between healing oneself and healing others.

A book signing will follow the presentation.
