Networking Event for SBS Students a Success

BOSTON, MA-December 7, 2010—On Wednesday, December 1st, the Office of Career Services and Cooperative Education and the Sawyer Business School co-hosted “A Major Event: A Networking Evening” for Marketing, Finance and ISOM majors.  The professionals attending were Suffolk alumni or friends of the university who have worked with Career Services in the past.

The program began with a brief networking session, followed by welcoming remarks from Myra Lerman, SBS Assistant Dean, Odie Fakhouri, SBS Student Ambassador, and Betsy McDowell, Associate Director of Career Services, followed by an extended networking session.

Over the course of two hours over 65 Suffolk students met with more than 30 professionals in attendance. The event provided students the opportunity to ask professionals in their field of interest questions and seek advice on everything from landing an internship, to what type of related experience employers are looking for and how to embark on a successful job search. The event was productive and rewarding for both the students and the experts. According to McDowell, “the professionals in attendance really enjoyed their time talking to students.”

Rob Faggiano, a junior in the Sawyer Business School had to say of the event, “In my experience, networking events at Suffolk have been an excellent opportunity for students to discuss career goals, learn about work experience and internships, as well as receive advice from established professional alumni.”Alumni professionals represented a host of organizations including Cisco Systems, Regan Communications, Verizon, BNY Mellon, Fidelity, and State Street.

On February 15, a second networking event will be held for SBS students majoring in Accounting, Entrepreneurship, Global Business, Management, and Public Administration. For information about other upcoming Career Services events, please go to our website or check out our events page on Facebook.
