Genre Pedagogy:
Developing Academic Literacy in an Urban Classroom

With Patricia Paugh, Ph.D., University of Massachusetts Boston

How can teacher education programs prepare teachers who are capable of teaching urban students the academic literacy skills they need to succeed?

Dr. Paugh’s research interests include school-university research partnerships, equitable access to academic literacy for students in high poverty, linguistically and culturally diverse communities, critical literacy, and the value of practitioner research in teachers’ professional development. She currently serves as the vice-president and program chair for the New England Educational Research Organization (http://www.neero.org).
